At present, Shanghai International Automobile Exhibition has held a grand opening ceremony. In the period, many relevant forum activities, such as “mould and vehicle parts technology and market”, created by China Die & Mould Industry Association attracted participation of many insiders. Expert participants thought that mould industry of China had entered into the era of “digital integration manufacturing”. Mould standardization, as the foundation for the development of industrial technology, is obviously urgent under the overall background that moulds provide forming process devices and forming process solutions completely.
Luo Baihui, an insider of mould industry, said: “at present, the standardization level and application level of moulds in China has reached up to 50%, which has had a great gap when compared with foreign industrial developed countries (70~80%). In recent years, the number of mould production and sales manufacturers in China has increased year by year. However, most mould manufacturers are small in scale, old-fashioned in devices, backward in technology, high in costs, and low in benefits. There are only common medium and small-sized standard mould bases, plastic mould bases, guide pillars, guide sleeves, push rods, mould springs, and pneumatic elements, which are high in commercialization degree, can meet demands of domestic market basically, and can export partially. Few manufacturers manufacture such products with high technical contents, advanced structure, high performances, superior quality, convenient exchange, and individuality, such as ball-lock quick-changing terrace dies, dead plates, solid lubrication guide plates, guide sleeves, wedge structures and parts, high-end plastic mould standard pieces, and nitrogen main springs etc. In addition, with capital shortage, it is difficult to realize technological upgrading projects. With low production efficiency, and long delivery cycle, the imbalance between supply and demand becomes more and more prominent. Through analysis, Luo Baihui thinks that it is necessary for us to import amounts of mould standard pieces from foreign countries, whose fees account for about 8% of the import amount. Domestic mould standard pieces have many problems in technical standards, scientific and technological development, and product quality.

Cao Chunhua, president of China Die & Mould Industry Association, thought: “moulds with low technical contents in China have been in buyer’s market, while medium and high-end moulds with high technical contents can not meet demands. In order to solve such problem, enterprises must complete transformation and upgrading and promote innovation ability gradually. Competitiveness of mould industry in the future will reflect in the competition of mould standardization and digitization.”

A survey of China Die & Mould Industry Association shows that many mould enterprises have actively developed standardization work, but their standardization level is generally low, and they don’t have generally adopted standards in design, modularization, integration, informatization, automatic manufacturing, and standardized plants. In addition, few adopt industrial standards.
